"I've had a significant impact on Scotland's Roman remains....without me, we would have lost many Roman sites........I was created by General William Roy, who, in effect helped to create today's Ordnance Survey mapping, when he was comissioned to map out the military roads in Scotland (following the 1745 rising). As General Roy travelled the country, creating maps of the land, he was fascinated by the remains of Roman Camps he saw. He added these to his maps, thus recording their location and helping to preserve these ancient sites at a time of massive change in land use as more and more land was given over to agriculture."
