My Story

I am Munro’s surgical instrument case. See the amputating saws, knives, scalpels, artery, bone and bullet forceps and needles. Let me tell you some of these blades are still razor sharp! On the day of battle the surgeon has none of the excitement of the fight ………but is exposed to the same danger as his comrades. He must keep a clear head and his hand steady……… Oh I could tell you some horrific stories of war.

The voice of Munro is kindly provided by Colonel Bobby Steele TD DL JP, a former serving officer with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.

William Munro served as Surgeon to the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders during the Crimean War. His ability as a surgeon was well known and his skills saved many lives. Often he administered to the wounded and dying under the heaviest bullet, shell and grapeshot fire being hit on more than one occasion but not injured.
