An exhibition of paintings and objects purchased for or gifted to the Stirling Smith is in Gallery 2. The portrait of Jessie McGregor by Stirling based artist John Munnoch (1879-1915) was purchased in 2008 with funding from National Fund for Acquisitions and Common Good Fund in Stirling. It solved the mystery of the identity of the woman in another Munnoch work owned by the Smith, The Chinese Coat. Munnoch died at Gallipoli in the Great War – his name is on the Stirling War Memorial – and his Will mentions Jessie McGregor as his sweet heart.
